| Over
the last three decades, the Inter-Governmental Philatelic Corporation
has changed the way stamp collectors around the world enjoy this
unique pastime known as the "Hobby of Kings."
Over
the last half century, IGPC has hosted more than 200 first day of
issue ceremonies and special unveiling events around the globe.
Famous icons of the past and living legends of today have been the
recipients of an honor, which had previously only been bestowed
upon world leaders. Today, more than 50 postal administrations have
honored living legends and have had them appear at a first day of
issue ceremony to unveil their very own postage stamps.
It
is due to the exceptional relationship IGPC holds with its client
postal administrations that the hobby of stamp collecting has attracted
young adults and children the world over. It has also attributed
to the international media coverage generated by unique special
events hosted by IGPC.
In
1997 the government of the Gambia honored Jackie Chan for his accomplishments
both on and off screen. The first day of issue ceremony, held at
the Hong Kong Exhibition Center drew a crowd of more than 250,000
fans. Moreover, more than 180 international television crews and
over 500 radio stations carried the ceremony live. More than 200
newspaper photographers attributed to over 1,000 newspaper clippings
with articles on the ceremony.
Many
other special events hosted by IGPC such as Sylvester Stallone at
the Planet Hollywood in New York City, Supermodel Elle MacPherson
in Melbourne, Australia, world famous illusionist David Copperfield
in Grand Central Station New York City, the world famous actor Bob
Hope in Anaheim, California, Chow Yun Fat at the Hong Kong Convention
Center, Heidi Klum in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and many others,
have drawn similar crowds.
In
the pages that follow we have prepared a calendar of upcoming
events
along with images and footage of previous unveiling ceremonies
for your viewing pleasure. Should you have a suggestion of a
great individual
worthy of being honored on a postage stamp, please feel free to
drop us your suggestion. If you have any photos of an IGPC hosted
event that you would like us to post, please forward it to us
for
our review at
